This is my service dog, Buddy, in front of his trainer's house, when he was about a year old. He'll be three in about a month. I've had him for a little over a year and a half. He keeps me company, picks up the many things my fumble- fingers drop, carries things in his backpack, helps me get out of bed, get up from a stooping position, pulls hard on his leash when I'm trying to walk up a hill or ramp, and makes me laugh. These two Maine Coon brothers lived with my mom until recently, when they passed on after long lives of love and pampering. I'm proud to admit that I "removed" them from a very bad situation when they were only tiny kittens. Someone had given them to my dad's neighbor, who left them outside on the cold concrete without food or water. When they cried, he yelled and kicked them. When I heard about this (the neighbor wasn't home at the time), I went right over to get them. Next stop: my mother's house, where they lived the rest of their lives. She loved them as much as any kitty has ever been loved. The neighbor was later overheard saying that he was glad to be rid of them. He assumed they had run away.

This is Gizmo. It's being sent just for Rosie and her FB's. I don't really like this picture to well as you can't see his pretty eyes. He is suppose to be our daughter's cat but when she left he stayed with us. In a way it was for the best, he is used to being around this place and the other cats. Lori, our daughter, was afraid that if she took him he would get out and get lost, which he probably would do. The bad side of it is, he ignores Lori when she comes over now. He is intimidated by Casper and Cleo, they won't leave him alone. Sometimes Gizmo starts it as if they are just walking by him he strikes out and growls at them. I am the peacemaker. ~Monica

These two pictures are of a dog that escorted us on a horseback ride we took on Icelandic horses. We rode 6-8 miles, she probably ran 9-10 by the time she was through running along side us, doubling back, running ahead, running down the hill to a meadow, etc. Apparently she follows all the rides that these people hold. And she's not even their dog, she's their neighbor's dog. How funny. I think they said she's an Icelandic dog (Icelandic Sheepdog?) and I don't remember what her name is. ~ Donna

We were taking a walk not far from our hotel in the core of Reykjavik, when this beautiful silver kitty popped out of the bushes to say hello.
It seemed to be enjoying our attention and we sure liked the opportunity to pet a cat, missing ours as much as we were. It hung around for a few minutes, then wandered back into the bushes and off to who-knows-where. ~Donna

These are my brother's, mother-in-law's...Lena's moo moos. Did everyone get that?! lol...She and her husband raised cows when they lived in Alabama and these are just a couple of her babies. This black and white kitty lived on the Laxnes Horse Farm where we took our horseback ride. I never did learn its name. He/she was friendly and liked to be petted. It roamed the barn and around the horses and wasn't remotely afraid of them. I asked about its tail and found out that before it came to live with them, it had gotten hit by a car and lost half of its tail. But its doing just fine. ~Donna

Simon!

Simon is an adolescent who showed up in our garage one day. After a few days of him hanging around, we realized he was a stray and wanted a home.
We cleaned him up and treated his fleas, he was infested with both fleas and ticks. It turned out he had the softest fur and the sweetest personality!!!
We introduced him to our other cat, Oscar. Oscar gave the thumbs up and from that day on, Simon became a member of the family. He's very outgoing and friendly. He is between 5 and 8 months old. He fits right in and we all love him very much! ~Kim

Benji! (before, and after!)

Benji came to me as a 6 week old foster. He and his 3+ siblings (only 4 came to me) were rescued from behind my sister-in-laws office bldg. There is/was a colony of ferrals living back there. We were able to catch...(I always have to stop and think)...ten kittens. There were more that were young enough to successfully rescue, but we couldn't get them. Benji's pappa was orange and in the group of kittens we rescued, there were 3, yes 3, orange girls and 2 orange boys! Very unusual! You may remember Sonny who was on TDK and his brother Shadow. They were brothers (different litter) we think of Benji too. I am working on getting pix of Benji's two orange sisters, Emma & Gracie, who live w/my sister-in-law. Anyway! Benji from day 2 was different than the rest and my son asked his dad if we could keep Benji for his b-day. And to our surprise and delight, Dad said "yes"! He will be 1 year old July 9th and is almost as big as my Marley, who btw is 15 lbs. of snuggly furbaby! I'm anxious to see how much he weighs now! Benji is such the sweetboy! He loves to cuddle and have tummy rubs and give head butts! Benj sleeps w/his boy, Jared (my 7 yr. old, soon to be 8!! Yikes!) most every night and we love him bunches! Ok, I'll stop now!

Please meet SCHATZIE, my schnauzer. The name Schatzie name means BELOVED in German.
I got him from the local shelter in 1995, when he was 1-1/2 years old. Actually, he adopted me. I walked into the caged area and he cocked his head at me, as if to say, "you looking for me?" I was a goner!
Schatzie will shake hands, sit and speak on command. He says "out" when he needs to go out. He absolutely loves his sister Terri and begins to cry the minute he sees her car approaching.
He is quite popular with all the little girlie dogs in his neighborhood, especially when he wears his dashing Harley hat. --- Lynn

Swimmy Turtles!

As promised, here are Fred and George...
A friend gave us Fred and George the "swimmy turtles" when they were the size of quarters - that was almost 5 years ago. Approx. dimensions of shell now - 7" long and 6" across. They're also much fatter than the ones you usually see in pet stores. They eat sun dried baby shrimp and enjoy their heat lamp, waterfall, and bubbles. These pictures were taken in the small aquarium, while I was cleaning their much larger one.

This is Max and his Amazingly Long Tongue. He was a very sick, skinny, dirty kitten who didn't trust people and was hard to capture. After taking him to the vet, I took him home for a bath. As soon as I put the struggling little guy in the warm water, he relaxed and started purring. After that, he was even good about taking his medicine. He's now a healthy 20 pounder who has been adopted by my ex-husband, so I still get to see him all the time.

I am completely overwhelmed by the feedback that I have gotten, as well as the help from Mary Lynn and everyone else. As to how I came to get my "fosters", my vet got a "tip" that this Mommy & babies were at the SPCA & scheduled to be destroyed. The babies were only a week old. She called me because she knew that I would help.Took me about 10 minutes to get there!So...Grace and Company have been living the "good life" as every kitty should in my master suite. They have had checkups and are perfect.My goal is to find great "forever" homes for them! I would love to keep them, but 10 cats (I already have 5) would be a bit much!I need to share with others!Thanks to all for prayers and well-wishes! *** OK, people. I don't ask for much, but we need your help. A lovely friend of kitties everywhere, Deborah, in Houson, TX, has rescued this wonderful little family from the SPCA. The top pic is of Pete & Marigold, 2 of the kits. Grace is the momma, and the cream/orange one is Brutus. The last one is Foster. I have attached a pic of my Chow, Rex.

We adopted him from the local spca. The previous owner left him there because he was fighting w/ his other male chow (both were not neutered). Rex is about 16 years old, extrememely hard of hearing and has cataracts in both eyes. He lost his hearing from repeated seizures. we think this was the real reason the previous owner gave him up. the vet doesn't know the cause. Rex is still the sweetest chow ever. He will gently take food from your hand when offered. My husband discovered Rex has a love of potato chips (thank goodness they share a bag only on rare occasions). Rex seems to be a bit vain and loves to look at himself after grooming. As you can see by his pic he really is a pretty boy. he has been such a blessing to our family. ~Shirley

We were motel managers when I finally caught him as he became sick with an upper respiratory condition and took him to the vet. He's been a pretty healthy cat since then. Attached is a picture another of my rats. This is Mike. She's a female rat that my nephew named when he was only one year old. We asked him what the rat was and he said "a monster". He'd been watching Monsters, Inc. a lot during that time, so when we asked him what the monster was called, he said "Mike". That's how we ended up with a female named Mike. :) She's a little more active than Joe, so its hard to get a good picture of her.

The "Famous" Emma!!!!!

Click on pics to see her "boo-boo" eye~GS Emma came to us as a foster kitten @ 3 mos. old. I really wanted her but hubby said he didn't think it was a good idea. So, she went up to PetsMart for adoption. Two people put applications in for her and to make a long story short, both were denied. And my hubby gave her to me for my b-day. So, she was meant to be w/us! She wags her tail like a dog when she's happy and her name could've been Shadow because she follows me everywhere. She will be 2 yrs. old in August. Love u Emma!

I almost forgot to tell about her eye. She has a "boo boo" eye from an injury she rec'd before I got her. I think her and her mother and siblings were picked up by Animal Control. Then a sponser from my rescue group picked them out from Animal C. Her eye was red and grossly swollen. After treatment, she now has a scar which has greatly reduced in size and she cannot see out of that eye. But does she care? Not at all. She behaves like any normal cat! ~Kat

I had been groomed just before this picture was taken and I am showing off my new bow. Mom took me to a new groomer and I had never had bows put on me before, she thought I looked so pretty. I wanted to submit, for your consideration, a very unusual pet, Lizzie the Lizard. She is an outdoor pet that lives in the big pine tree and ivy by our porch. She wanders among my plants and keeps bugs away. She really likes my hubby, Charley, and will come out and sit on the arm of his chair when he sits outside. This will be the second year Lizzie has been with us.
She will pose while Charley takes her picture. She has tried to come indoors, but don't think it would be a good idea with Missy Blue Eyes, our tabby. Although Missy would probably enjoy a good chase! ~ML (Mary Lynne)

This Mooch, he's a Plott Hound and a goofy boy too.
He adopted us the first day that we moved her to North Carolina in 2003. He puts up with Shania our Husky and the 5 cats that we have. i found out that he was to be put down at the local shelter, because no one wanted to adopt a hound. :( So we took him in from our neighbor who rescued him, and now he is a happy member of our family. Oh something cute my siamese (Sia posted previous) will clean his ears out to. It's very cute to watch. ~Val

This is Baby, I read somewhere that cats respond better to names with "ee" at the end.
Our other cat was a little older than her so she would baby her.
We initially called the other cat Love because of a heart shape fur on her side and a heart tattoo where her ovaries were once located.
But now we call them Mama and Baby! hahaha so original right?
Can you imagine us taking them to the vet?
So how is Mama and Baby doing?

This is Sia. She is about 10 months old now. She showed up at our house and never left. I took her to the vet to have her checked out, declawed and spayed. I also asked the Vet to do a Feline Leukemia test on her because she had been a stray and I wanted to make sure she was healthy. She tested positive. We decided to keep her until it starts affecting her, then we'll have to have her put to sleep. The vet said most likely she will only live to be 2 but there's about a 15% chance she could live to be 4. In all the years he's been a vet (30+, I'd say) he's only seen 2 live past 4...one lived to be 8 and the other lived to be 11. Right now, she's enjoying the high-life with my three small girls (4-yr-old twins and a 2-yr-old.). She is very tolerant of them and seems to enjoy their attention (at least sometimes). ~Staci

She's now 8 months old and is still totally enamoured of her Rufus-hound :) She came to me when a coworker brought her and her brothers to the office for a "visit", knowing full well that the animal lovers would quickly adopt them all! I also wanted to share some more information about the mother...and explain why she was shaved in that picture that I sent. When I got her, she was severely neglected and only weighed 7 pounds (this is while she was nursing 8 kittens!). She had burrs and thorns and trash stuck in her fur and I decided that the best thing to do was to shave her so that she would be more comfortable. It was amazing how gentle she was...it was hard to tell if she was just too exhausted to fight me or if she could somehow sense that I wanted to help her...but she never once hissed or growled or attempted to bite me. She just laid there, gentle and quiet as any cat I've ever seen. She was so sweet! That made finding her a new home very easy and she went to a woman who has taken very good care of her. ~Alison

Hi everyone! Gheeri's Servant here. Now, I won't be making a habit of this- I know you want to get on with the pics, but I needed to give thanks to a few people. First of all, I would like to thank the Kittenmaster (*gushing*) I can't belive that he/she would consider putting my site up as an alternate for TDK!!!! I mean, it's how can they even compare?! It all started with The Daily Kitten, and I only wish for it to be back up and running! Thank you, Kittenmaster! Second, I would like to thank my friends, always giving support and suggestions, and always blogging their little hearts away. Minks (Minky) is a Ragdoll cat. He LOVES to be brushed and demands that I do so at least 6 times a day. His favourite activity is going to meet other people. He strolls into their house like he owns it; politely greets the home owner; then goes to check out their fridge. When we found her and decided to keep her, I had to count her toes. Her feet seemed so big I thought she was polydactl. We guessed that she was ~9 months old or so when we found her in November 2003. She's a slightly chunky 11.5 pounds now. She follows us everywhere. Whatever room we're in, that's where she wants to be. She even waits for me to get out of the shower. She's quick to purr and love. She's our love-bug.

This is my daughter Erica's hampster named "Furby". Furby loved to play in mazes that she would build from lego's and ride in the back of my son Patrick's model cars.

Saki - is the 4kg cat with the 40kg personality. He was the first ever cat I adopted. He owns me and does not like to share. Normally, he won't let any other cat sit on my knee - this photo is a rare exception.
Bumbletail Tigerbear Stickywhiskers (Bumbles) - is a stray/feral? kitten who wandered into my life a few Christmases ago. He is a very happy cat and sits and purrs away to himself for much of the day. Because he was so young when we found him, he thinks Pearl (the dog) is his mum and used to try and feed from her. ~Val

So many people wanted to see my girl, and a couple of the pics that were sent to me were screwed up, so here's Bagheera! I got her name from the Panther in the Jungle Book. She looked like a wily panther back when we got her. Now she looks like a plump housekitty! She'll be 4 in July, and we got her from our Humane Society. She had been skinny, pregnant, and a stray, but now she's nice and healthy!

This is my dog Sammie w/one of our 1st foster kittens Lily. Lily and her six other siblings were left on one of our fosters porch in a carrier. One of Lily's brothers was already dead and everyone else was sick. Lily and Charlie were near death's door, but the foster named Laura nursed them & the others back to health. They were all adopted in to great homes. Sammie wishes she was a momma cat.

Maddie was a stray who wandered on to our backdeck on *the* 9/11 (Sept 11, 2001). She came back 3 days in a row so we decided she should stay with us forever. She was small and skinny with dull fur. On the weekends, I take each of them in turn for an "out-front-walk" in their harness and leash. They get the most wonderful responses from people.
