Swimmy Turtles!

As promised, here are Fred and George...
A friend gave us Fred and George the "swimmy turtles" when they were the size of quarters - that was almost 5 years ago. Approx. dimensions of shell now - 7" long and 6" across. They're also much fatter than the ones you usually see in pet stores. They eat sun dried baby shrimp and enjoy their heat lamp, waterfall, and bubbles. These pictures were taken in the small aquarium, while I was cleaning their much larger one.

Finally, it looks as though I'll be able to post!! Blogger is super slow today!! It was fine this morning and then by this afternoon, I at least, haven't hardly been able to get in to any blogger sites! ANYWAY, Karen, good to finally see the turtles! Reptiles are one type of pet I've never had. But I do like turtles! Cute, I guess, for turtles! Lol!

FINALLY!!! Yea!!! Swimmy Turtles. Wish we could see them swimming, but know these pix were difficult enough to get. You are so lucky, Karen C., to have Grr, Midnight and Cocoa plus Fred and George. Wow. I had forgotten about them coming up...WOW.

The pictures I have of them swimming have water/glass/light glare, but the biggest problem is those fins are a total blur, they go so fast. They're not cuddly, but they're fun to watch. Fred (redder head, lighter shell) is much more outgoing than George. I have to have a screen held down by heavy rocks on top of the aquarium or Fred will pull himself right up to the edge and peek out at you. I was so afraid he'd topple over the side so I always keep it covered now. I'm in the process of moving things around in the house to make room for an even bigger aquarium (the 4th in a series of increasingly bigger tanks). This next one is over 4 feet long.

GS-I've been meaning to get into my picture box and get some older pictures to you, but I'm kind of a flake sometimes. Or "busy" - that's right, I'm busy! Anyway, I'll get pictures of my Mom's 2 beloved Maine Coon brothers to you. They were beautiful and I know she'd love to see them on your site. She'll cry, yes, but she'd love to see them...really.

Momsbusy - I got it - I giggled! By the way, did you get the "Fred and George" thing? Ron Weasley's twin red headed brothers from Harry Potter (though mine are Fred and George Tortuga).

I like the turtles. They are really cute. My sister has one. I don't go over there often. I have to get pics of Andy the turtle and Iris the cat. I bet these guya are fun to watch.

I tried posting earlier but blogger has been horrid!

OMG, you guys aren't kidding when you say "finally"! Jeez, but my search engines and stuff were being kooky too, so-I don't know.

HAHA-Karen, no one told you how big they could get, huh? When I worked in an Aquarium/parrot store I used to recommend 75 gallon wide tanks for starters, and they would laugh, and 6 months later they would be back, buying a bigger tank. I hate when people think things will grow to the size of their home.... Oh, the pics of the coons will be so great!!!! LOL, you're not a flake. We're all busy, not just you. I "forget" to do things all the time.

momsbusy, that was corny, but funny... :)

I feel like I may have a fever again today-I feel a little delirious.....

You know what I was just thinking about?

Ok I will tell you. I was wondering how Donna was doing. Hope she is having a good time.

GS I hope you are not getting sicker. I think what you need is lots of bed rest and kitty love.

Yes, I hope Donna's having a good time! She gets back the 10th if my memory is serving me right! lol Most of the times it doesn't, but me tinks me's right about 'dis one! Sorry, a little bit of me Jamaican roots is coming out! LOL!

GS - BTW, Go Home!! If you feel feverish you should go home and get rest!! If you don't you're only gonna make yourself sicker in the end and you won't have a choice, but to be on bed rest and it'll take longer for you to recover because you were stubborn and didn't take time to rest!!!::deep breath:: If you are in fact getting sick again! Did ya hear me!? This is one of your fuzz sisters talking to you?! Why you gotta be so stubborn!? :)

Hey everybody! Feel like I gotta type really fast, or another error message will popup taking my umteenth message with it...would anyone know if today's date has any influence??? DON'T WANNA GO THERE!!!!
Hey Karen, your turtles must look so cool in motion! Um, but how can you tell they're fat??
GS - you're ripe for a relapse girl, take a giant step backward and relax and treat yourself to a little recovery time, too...okay?
Chat to you over at Kat's!

Rose - If you were to hold a turtle like you would a sandwich, they'd be more like the thickness of, say, a double cheeseburger with the works, as opposed to a ham sandwich. Most of the ones I see in the pet shop have shells that are big around, but they're only ham sandwich thickness. ...yup...I know...I'm odd...

oh, Kat, Jamaican me crazy!

LOL, see, I'm delirious! HAHA...

Oh, I think this whole 6/6/06 thing is so stupid, don't get me started. I would have thought it had something to do with it if it weren't for the fact that blogger does this every so often. It's like, every once in a while, someone goes, Let's throw them into a loop! and flicks a switch that makes blogger not work. Oh well...

A) do we know anything new about Jake?
B)I'm wondering about Donna too.
C)I don't think I'm getting sicker, I think I just haven't gotten rid of this bug completely.

See you all tomorrow-I'm going home.....

Karen C. Never thought I would say how pretty a turtle was. Fred sure has pretty markings on the underside, as well as on his shell. Is George's underside as colorful?? I don't think I have ever seen a turtle as colorful.

Our oldest son had those real little turtles when he was a kid, but they never grew to much in size. He kept saying he would take care of them, yeah right. Just like our other son said he was going to take care and clean the rat cage. Your's truly did it all or else they wouldn't stay healthy.

Hi! Franklin, my nephew turtle says hello to his buddies!

HELLO FUZZ FAMILY! Sorry it has taken me so long to post, but I just got home. Wow, did I have a day! Started with problems with my mom (she has Alzheimers & is in a nursing home)at 6:00 a.m. Took care of that, got back home around 1:30 and gathered up Grace, Pete & Foster, their "things" & my daughters. Went to Spring, TX -- about a 45 minute drive. Met Marilynn Smith, her daughter, grandsons & grand-daughter. The most charming, sweet family I have ever met. Grace LOVES her new mommy -- Marilynn! She is being given the "royal" treatment! As she should! Pete & Foster were "surprises" for the oldest grandson (13 1/2) Austen -- he has had their pics posted on his computer for a while. I was so impressed with Austen & his brother Parker. Very gentle with the kitties! Love the men who love cats! The grand-daughter, Kiera, is 5. Such a beauty! She was having such fun with the kitties! I felt so wonderful leaving them because I knew that they were in their "forever" homes! The only tears I shed were tears of happiness for them. I do miss them, but I KNOW that they are where they belong.

Rose: Marigold & Brutus are doing great! I'll give you a call tomorrow!

ML, I'm so glad that Missy is doing better!

p.s. I'm sending new pics of the kitties with their new humans!

I really like the swimmy turtles. Had to come back and take a look before I go to bed.
Fred is really colorful and has some neat mosaic looking patterns, very bright. And George is more deep earth tones. Those dudes are huge. Wonder how big they will get?

Do they bite? Just wondering.

12:32 AM
Blogger Karen C. said...

Normally they don't bite. They're very cooperative with me because I've handled them since they were babies. They do get scared if anyone else tries to pick them up, and the little legs/fins are going like crazy and the claws are very sharp. My daughter tried to pick one of them up, but he got scared and legs got going and then she got scared and was about to drop him. I reached to grab the turtle, but from the wrong angle, and he bit me on the wrist. It made a perfectly round red circle, kind of like a bruise.

Love the turtles. My younger brother used to have turtles while growing up but he always named them Timmy, as in Timmy 1, Timmy 2, etc. It got confusing to me but the Timmy's were wonderful for Dave who was allergic to dogs and cats.

Hope all are well.
