Midnight & Boots

*Err... sorry for the confusion, everyone! ^_^; ~GS*

These two Maine Coon brothers lived with my mom until recently, when they passed on after long lives of love and pampering. I'm proud to admit that I "removed" them from a very bad situation when they were only tiny kittens. Someone had given them to my dad's neighbor, who left them outside on the cold concrete without food or water. When they cried, he yelled and kicked them. When I heard about this (the neighbor wasn't home at the time), I went right over to get them. Next stop: my mother's house, where they lived the rest of their lives. She loved them as much as any kitty has ever been loved. The neighbor was later overheard saying that he was glad to be rid of them. He assumed they had run away.

Midnight, how beautiful. How good to see you again.
Karen, she is gorgeous. Love your black cats.

GS: Do you need more Pets for du Jour? You have not posted my adorable Bear, the mini poodle. Of course, I never submitted her, but be that as it may, may I?

I'm sorry if I wasn't very clear, plus the same name thing makes it confusing, but this is actually my mother's kitty Midnight, who mine was named in honor of. Midnight (this one) and Boots were the two Maine Coon kittens I "removed" from the bad situation and took to my mother. They lived as spoiled little kitty boys should, until they recently passed away. When I got my 3 black kitties I named one in honor of my mother's beloved Midnight (who had already passed), and Cocoa was named after chocolate (my mother works at See's Candies). Grr named herself.
So...this beautiful big boy is my mother's baby, Midnight, who is waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge. She adored him and he adored her. Because of his bad situation when he was a baby, he was very distrustful of most everyone else. I could get him to relax around me by constantly talking to him in a very low voice, telling him how beautiful he was and how much I loved him.

Sorry I confused everything. It was that other picture of baby Cocoa that I said hold on to (I thought everyone would be tired of seeing him by now).

GS - Do you want me to tell the story of the "bad situation", or are you going to post it with Boots? And...go ahead and post Cocoa's baby picture. I had originally sent it to TDK with the one they actually used, so I doubt they're going to use the one you have. Plus, it's so cute!

So this is the cat your Midnight was named for. Beautiful cat. Now I must find a picture of the current Midnight and compare them side by side.

And I want to see Boots as well.

And Cocoa's baby picture. I never get tired of looking at them. Karen C's black cats are some of my very favorites. How nice to get to see the first Midnight.

When we trapped my three, we named the little quiet, shy girl "Midnight" after my mom's kitty, because their purrsonalities were more similar. Cocoa was a bouncy little nut. As it turns out, Grr is more the size of this "original" Midnight, Cocoa looks more like him (with the extra fur around the neck), and my Midnight II didn't turn out anything like him, except for the fact that they're black. Oh well, it's nice to have the name as an "In Memory Of" for this big boy.

Did you follow all that? I'm kind of confusing sometimes!

What a great story, Karen. Thank goodness you intervened and rescued them. Guess you've been rescuing cats and kittens your whole life!

I think, technically, I may have "stolen" these two, but I certainly prefer "rescued". I'd do anything for kitties in need.

Wow, there are ANGELS on earth and you and your family are some of them. What a brute the neighbor was to do that to any living thing. I'm glad you had the courage to remove them from that situation and that they lived out their lives in a loving home. They were very beautiful cats.

No Karen, you RESCUED them!!! I'm glad the confusion has been cleared up. I thought Midnight was a girl. You and your Mom did a great thing by these two wonderful cats! I'm glad that they were able to live out the rest of their lives knowing love! What I can't figure out is why that man would even bother with having cats? Some people!

Yeah, Rosie (eye for an eye), I'm with ya too! And thanks to Karen C and her RESCUE, there was a happy ending to this.

Thank goodness there are guys around like Malcolm, to restore our faith. He has taken in a tiny broken kitten he rescued from traffic (see http://www.droppedin.com/). Great story. Think Karen C was referring to it above, a link is also on Oreo's site. And then Kat emailed me about it. Now I go back to find his server is getting so many hits, it's having errors. Yeah Malcolm!!!!
