ExxonMobil is swimming in cash...while polar bears are drowning in the Arctic.

ExxonMobil raked in over $35 billion in profits in 2005, and another $8.4 billion in the first quarter of 2006. But where are Exxon's priorities?

ExxonMobil has given its former CEO Lee Raymond a retirement package worth almost $400 million. Yet, it still refuses to pay punitive damages for the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill that killed birds, fish, sea otters and other wildlife – some of which have yet to recover.
Tell ExxonMobil's CEO to stop pushing for oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge; to withdraw its support of the pro-drilling Arctic Power lobbying firm; and to start investing in renewable energy for the future. Let ExxonMobil know that until they mend their anti-wildlife ways, you will be boycotting their gasoline!

Stop Oil Exploration in Indigenous Traditional Lands in Belize

A US-based oil company is poised to begin oil exploration in the Sarstoon Temash National Park (STNP) and indigenous traditional lands in southern Belize.

The park encompasses 41,000 acres of relatively undisturbed wetlands where hundreds of species of birds, tropical butterflies and animals live, including manatees, ocelots and endangered jaguars, and is home to 5 indigenous villages whose livelihoods are closely tied to the health of the Park's resources.

And what a good looking boy he is! I love odd-eyes.

GS--what's going on with your eye? If it's really bothering you, go SQUAT in your primary's office until you get a referral. Your sight is NOT something to mess around with!! (OK, end of Mumma lecture--but seriously--get looked at!!)

Sorry I've missed so much of this week, but I now know that I am too old(or out of practice) for a 4 day party. The "Young People" are coming back down from Mount Hood this afternoon, and the Hawaii bunch fly out tomorrow morning, so I'm going to try to catch up with them before they leave. Later---

Support America's first offshore wind farm

Several U.S. Senators, led by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), are trying to block plans for "Cape Wind," the nation's first offshore wind farm in Cape Cod, MA. The wind farm would create jobs and meet 75% of the electricity needs of Cape Cod and surrounding islands, helping to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cut global warming pollution from power plants.

But despite the huge potential benefits, Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) backs a bill that would effectively halt the proposed construction. The 130-turbine, 24-square-mile cluster of windmills would be about 8 miles from Kennedy's home in Hyannis Port.

Ted Kennedy and other rich homeowners just don't want their view spoiled.

Stop Gov. Vilsack (Iowa) from Legalizing "Dog Farming"

Iowa House and Senate have already approved a Bill 2797 with a "hidden provision" allowing dogs to be classified as "farm products". Gov. Vilsack is about to sign this bill into law. If dogs become classified as "livestock," they would be in the same category as pigs, chickens and cows --- and not protected by cruelty and abuse laws. This could allow for eating dog meat, using dog fur on clothing and other ornaments.

Mickey is beautiful. I hope he's not offended, but I thought for sure he was a girl at first glance. He's just so pretty and sweet looking. I love white kitties.

GS - I'll go check out all your petition sites. My 12 year old daughter has decided she wants to be an animal activist and has been writing to people, joining things, and even bugging her teachers and friends about it. I'm sure she and I will be discussing all these issues later tonight. BTW...I'm not sure exactly what your eye issue is, but...I had a problem recently where my vision was getting distorted and there was just something odd going on with my eyes. The eye doctor said that I had swelling inside my eyes due to the fact that I was wearing contacts all the time and using the computer too much. I had to cut back on contact lens wear for 2 weeks while the swelling went down, and switch to a more breathable type. I now use the Night/Day kind that you're supposed to be able to sleep in, but I don't. I don't know if you're having a similar problem or not, but it's a good idea to get it checked. My favorite eye doctor is actually the one at Costco - reasonable prices, quality care and open nights and weekends.

I just wanted to let you know that I had posted Mickey, then I got an email about the Polar Bears, which inspired me, because they're white like Mickey-so thank Mickey for the barrage of environmental stuff! LOL

Wow, karen, that is too weird.... I wear contacts (a special night/day pair that are silicone-they have the best breathability) and I sleep in them. I know it's bad, but I've been doing it for at least 10 years now (don't remember what age I started contacts. I DO remember I was 12 when I started with glasses)-so I never really had a problem. I've been looking for my glasses that I haven't worn in months in order to take out the contacts (I am legally blind without contacts/glasses), but with all the moving & stuff, I don't know where the hell they are *grrr.....* While I was on vacation & picking Toby up, my eye was hurting like when you get a lash or something, but neither Bryan nor I could see anything. We stopped at a rest stop and he bought me solution, and I washed it, but nothing-still pain. Then I took out the contact and replaced it, but it still hurt, so I knew it wasn't the contact. The whole time I was rubbing and rubbing. That couldn't have been good. Eventually the pain subsided. I don't know if my body got used to it, or if it went away temporarily, but over the last few days I've noticed that the same eye feels swollen and is especially sensitive (I have light-colored eyes, so they're already sensitive, but now it's ridiculous!) to light. But theres also that thing with the fungus from the Bausch and Laumb solution, so I don't know if it's that, or from sleeping in them, or maybe I DID have something in my eye, but scratched my cornea with all the rubbing.... I have good insurance, but I never have the time to go! It doesn't feel like it's gotton any worse, but it's not better either..

BTW, I need to mention that I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited about the DaVinci Code coming out tomorrow! I already have tix!!!! The book is one of my all-time faves!!!

Kim- I KNEW someone was gonna say it!!!!! LOL

Oh Mickey you bring back good memories for me as I used to have a cat just like you so many years ago. She used to have one blue eye and one green eye. Can't tell if your one eye is green or gold, but I bet you are a topic of conversation as Mamma kitty was. She had several litter of kittens and not one of them had eyes like hers. Thanks Jessica for posting Mickey

GS, forgot to mention, I'm excited about the Davinci Code too!!!! I've been waiting for this movie! I like Angles and Demons better though, would rather they have made that one first. If you liked Davinci Code, I think you'll like a book the Steve Berry called "The Third Secret".

Blogger Gheeri's Servant said...

Yay! Will you be able to see it in the theater? Or do you have to wait until it comes out on video?

I'll check out the Steve Berry book, although I pretty much don't have time for reading! The only time I get time to myself is at work, and then we're all paranoid about the boss coming around, LOL XD

I forgot to mention that I know Jessica from another place we blog, the cat chat forum at animalplanet.com. I had put up that I had a blog & she sent me pix of dear Mickey here :)

Okay, I broke down and read the article. First, isn't that cat just a doll. Bless his heart, the intrepid little kitty found his way home. Guess they were hoping a gator would get him or something. Was the guy a firefighter? Guess they aren't all heroes. I agree, they got off way too easy, way too easy. And what about that story they made up about how they were REALLY TRYING TO HELP the cat.

GS - I had a problem with my eye last fall (my 4 yr old raised up and head butted me in my eye by accident). My cornea had been scratched, but the optometrist said they normally heal quickly. If it had started feeling better I would probably say it was healing, but if it hasn't (which it sounds like it hasn't) I would definitely go see them. The optometrist also said that if they don't heal really quickly it is the easiest way for bad infections to get into your system. Please go have your eyes checked.

Mickey is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! I always wanted a kitty with different colored eyes. My kitty was on this site a week or so ago...SIA. Give Mickey some lovins for the rest of us on the site.
