The "Famous" Emma!!!!!

Click on pics to see her "boo-boo" eye~GS Emma came to us as a foster kitten @ 3 mos. old. I really wanted her but hubby said he didn't think it was a good idea. So, she went up to PetsMart for adoption. Two people put applications in for her and to make a long story short, both were denied. And my hubby gave her to me for my b-day. So, she was meant to be w/us! She wags her tail like a dog when she's happy and her name could've been Shadow because she follows me everywhere. She will be 2 yrs. old in August. Love u Emma!
I almost forgot to tell about her eye. She has a "boo boo" eye from an injury she rec'd before I got her. I think her and her mother and siblings were picked up by Animal Control. Then a sponser from my rescue group picked them out from Animal C. Her eye was red and grossly swollen. After treatment, she now has a scar which has greatly reduced in size and she cannot see out of that eye. But does she care? Not at all. She behaves like any normal cat! ~Kat

I am soooooooooo sorry I can't be here today to comment, but I am taking the day off...

know this: Kat, I'm sorry I can't be here today to comment on Emma-girl, because you're such a great friend. But I will get everything out now. Emma's such a pretty girl-I think the eye makes her look odd-eyed. Does she look like that normally, without a giant flash? Or is it only when you take pics with a flash?
She really does look quite proper. Like, Hello, could you fetch me a can of tuna? I'm resting.....

Sorry again, guys. Good Morning, Fuzz Pack!

I love this kitty!!!!!! In my opinion the eyes are beautiful!!!! As long as they don't bother her then there is no problem. GS is right about that tuna comment. That is exactly the impression I got.

Back to the eyes I think that is a great trait. Two different colors. Wonderful!!!! at least they look two different colors. One blue one yellow? Anyway I love her!!! She is a beautiful B-day present. I'm jealous. I got a card.

Beautiful Emma. The eye does not diminish her beautiful but enhances her character. Love the way she seems so comfortable having her picture taken. Thanks for sharing her with us.

Hello, Emma. What a beauty. And Claire put it perfectly, "...the eye does not diminish her beauty, but enhances her character." Face it, nothing could diminish her beauty. She could be Queen Emma, she certainly has the cattitude for the title.

Hi pretty girl! I love you! Her eye has like a whitish scar over it, so you can just see the color around the outer edge of the scar. She has those greenish-yellowish eyes. A few people have said her eye looks like a marble. Like Claire says, I think it gives her character. She can't see out of that eye, but the eye doc said she is light sensitive. Anyway, she doesn't know she's any different than anybody else. It's all she's known. The vet said he thinks she had a puncture would to the eye (maybe a sharp claw from a sibling) and it caused all the fluid to leak out and her iris to attach itself to the retina? Is that right? She's such a good girl. One day I will get video of her wagging her tail and then learn how to post it!! I have some video, but there wasn't enough light, so you have to really look to see her.

Kat, can she jump OK and such? I wonder if being mostly blind in that one eye has affected her depth perception. Or maybe she simply learned to compensate?

Rambling on...

This morning, after I finished my run, it took me about 5 minutes to take my shoes off. Why would it take 5 minutes to remove a pair of shoes, you ask? Because Wiley was right next to me when I untied them and one of the laces plopped right in front of her. Well, of course she attacked it! So then I had to play with her with the laces for a few minutes.

And that's why it can take 5 minutes to remove running shoes.

Rambling off...

Hi Emma-girl!

Oh, Miss Emma, you are so pretty, and obviously Queen of the House!! I love the Paws Crossed Pose--I think it's one of the Official Cat Yoga poses, to rest and take deep breaths between the more active poses.

Amber is lovely too. It's a shame she won't let the cats love on her. She doesn't know what she's missing.

My mother had Lily, a Lab/Aussie who was one of the sweetest dogs in the world. One day, Mom and my sister Kitty were doing something in the sewing room when Nick came charging in. "Nana, Mama, Lily's purring!" He led them back to the living room, and there was Lily, lying on her rug, with Cleo the cat washing her NOSE. Lily just lay there, but she was saying "grrr, grrr, grrr!" Lily was truly one of those dogs that you want to live forever, but she is waiting for Mom at the Rainbow Bridge. BTW, Kitty and I have added furniture to the Bridge. Even dogs can't romp and play all the time, so there are now sofas. We know that when Lily wants a rest, there is a nice long sofa for her and Blueberry, her best friend and "sister." They sleep together as they did here, heads and paws intertwined, looking like a LOOONG dog with no head, but 2 butts!

Emma you are so pretty. Love your white paws. Also love the way you cross your paws in front of you, so cute. You made a really great birthday present.

Your right meowmepurrs, Amber is missing out on a lot more love that she could have had if she let Patches cozy up to her. I think it's so cute to watch Patches trying to do that. But............that's the way it goes with dogs sometimes.

Donna - Emma jumps, barrels down the stairs after Benji, anything any other cat can do...she can do better. Sorry, got that song in my head. She's really rather observant of things to. Can spot birds and bugs. No problems. There was one time though that I was putting my boys to bed one night. They're in bunk beds and I started out the door and we have to prop something in front of the door to keep it from closing by itself. So as I walked out the door, I removed the Hot Wheels box and kept on going, letting the door close on it's own. Well, Emma was a few steps behind me, so by the time she got to the doorway, the door was almost 3/4's of the way closed. And as her bad eye is her right eye, she didn't see that the door was too close to her head and bammed her head on the door. She was fine. I don't think it hurt, just startled her a bit. Poor girl. That's the only mishap she's ever had concerning her eye.

She does sound wonderfully amazing. If the damage to her eye happened when she was a kitten, I was guessing that she would have simply grown up adapted to it. To her, it's normal. To us, she's not only normal, she's *special* :-)

Emma is adorable..are her whiskers longer on the bad eye side? I noticed kitties with bad vision usually have the longest whiskers and I was wondering if that is the same for her?
She is a pretty baby though...

Huh?!...Riquel, I've never heard of that, but it does seem her whiskers are a tad longer on her bad side. She's actually snoozing on the couch behind me, so I won't disturb her now. But, I'll have to check her over later and get back to you. Funny, how I see her everyday and I can't seem to think if she has really long whiskers or not. I think she kinda does. But, anyway, I'm gonna check her out and see if one sides longer than the other! lol Would make sense though. To compensate for not seeing on that side. So she doesn't bump into anything.

She's just adorable! Please learn from our experience and keep "an eye" on her eye. I had a beloved boy with a similar injury...long story short, 10-12 years later, he developed a tumor in the same eye, it spread, and the cancer was throughout his body. My vet told me that recent research at Cornell was suggesting that these sorts of injuries may develop into tumors - a weird cat thing. If you notice any change in color or pattern in the injured eye, get the vet ASAP and see about having it removed.
