Athena

I am submitting my cat Athena. She is 11 years old and has kidney disease. She can be pretty nasty at times, but likes to play and sleep places where she shouldn't. ~Rebecca

Dear Rebecca,

Athena is a beautiful girl and I'm sure you have given her love throughout the 11 years. My cat Simon was diagnosed with kidney disease at about 8 and lived approximately 3 years with the help of our vet. Just give her lots of love and follow your vets instructions to make her as comfortable as you can.

No problemo, GS :-)

Hi Athena! Oh, I hope she, and you, are handling the kidney disease OK. Does it simply require a special diet?

My cats love to get under a newspaper like that!

Gheeri would rather be ON the paper. She lays on any and everything she can find. Papers, clothes, movies, whatever. As soon as you put it down, there she is.

Poor sweety. She's such a pretty gray. I don't know much about kitties with kidney disease - can it be handled with medication? I hope she has many more happy years ahead of her.

Simon was on a special diet. Hills Science Diet KD and of course, lots of water. Even added a bit of salt to his wet food to increase his intake of water. Best to follow whatever the vet suggests. Athena can still have a good life.

Hi Athena! Did mommy send your picture to Stuff on my CAt?? It looks like the Enquirer or Star! Lol...As you'all know, my Emma is obsessed w/paper. Though she'd rather you crumple it into a ball and flick it for her to bring back! She occasionally likes to shred paper also.

Rebecca your Athena is a very pretty cat. She looks like grey velvet. Yes GS, it does seem like that there are quite a few sick kitties lately and hopefully they all are feeling O.K. now. More kitty prayers. Don't know if I do any good coming on so late. Had to leave right after commenting on Kats cat and missed out. Right now it's eleven PM back on the east coast and everyone is probably asleep. Oh well, I get to check the cuties and Athena is definitely one of those for sure.

Wow, I totally missed out on Athena yesterday. I don't know if anyone will even see this. But if so, here goes. Athena is a beautiful girl. She could be the twin of my late cat, Athur (Artie)! I love this kind of gray cat! I'm so sorry that she's sick. Hopefully she'll live a pain-free life. It sounds like she's in the right place! Thanks for sharing your baby!

I have (eventually) lost all 3 cats to liver/kidney failure. HOWEVER, they can live long and happy lives with a little help-like the KD diet and perhaps some subq fluids. Hopefully Athena will be a little "nasty" for a very long time. Gorgeous coat!
