Last but not least...

*This is the last of the Fuzz Family series. Thanks so much to Alison for sharing them with us! ~GS*
I also wanted to share some more information about the mother...and explain why she was shaved in that picture that I sent. When I got her, she was severely neglected and only weighed 7 pounds (this is while she was nursing 8 kittens!). She had burrs and thorns and trash stuck in her fur and I decided that the best thing to do was to shave her so that she would be more comfortable. It was amazing how gentle she was...it was hard to tell if she was just too exhausted to fight me or if she could somehow sense that I wanted to help her...but she never once hissed or growled or attempted to bite me. She just laid there, gentle and quiet as any cat I've ever seen. She was so sweet! That made finding her a new home very easy and she went to a woman who has taken very good care of her. ~Alison

I said some stuff on yesterday's, but I guess if we don't find the kittens, I'll just have to bring her in to the vet and get her checked up, spayed and such. I don't want her to not be able to feed the kittens, but eventually they'll be weaned, and I don't want her to get pregnant again. I can't set traps because I don't know where the kittens are, and there are, apparently, more than one stray cat around. I went to my car this morning to find, on my way to the car, perched atop the wooden fence, a Gheeri-look-alike. Smaller and with golden eyes (1/2 her size, lol), but still. Then next to my car, another flash of black-another black stray. I think they found out I'm feeding Squeaker, and they've come (If you feed them, they will come....). I have a freaking community. Not that I mind the company, I just feel so damn BAD. Helpless, even. How can I TNR all these cats? :::sigh:::

Such a sweet family of fuzz! Mama kitty has a nice fluffy tail - I bet she's normally quite a furry one. I'm so glad all those adorable kitties have good homes now.

Have you heard anything about TDK?

No, I just emailed Rosie to see if she could find me a way to contact the KM.... It seems that they'll never be back, it's been so long. But who am I to say... let's see what happens...

Sorry GS, but what is TNR?? Are you Internet capable at the new house? It'll be 3 weeks since TDK has been down! I'm really starting to think they're not coming back either, but we should like GS said, see what happens after we contact the KM.

Quite allright, kat. Trap, Neuter, Return. I think it's the best thing to happen to stray/feral cats since sliced bread (yes, I know ferals have no need for sliced bread, but I couldn't think of anything else...) Anyhow, I can't believe it's been that long. I think I will give up hope after I come back from Georgia.....

Alison,

Bless you for taking care of this family. My two cats are from a litter of 11 that were born to a momma cat in Detroit. Someone kind like you took her in and then gave the family to a non-kill shelter, Michigan Animal Rescue League, so now I have two very loving cats (the mother and the other 9 all found homes too).

What an adorable family. It's a good thing you took them in Alison. Trying to take care of a family that size while being underfed and malnourished herself...that's not good. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons they aborted Maddie's pregnancy was because she was so small and undernourished. It's sad for the kittens who never got to be born but it sure helped Maddie survive and thrive.

I do hope TDK comes back. Although if it doesn't we at least have KCofD and PdJ. :-)

I'm at home today. I'm taking a "sanity" day (I also call them Donna Days). Just me--and kitties--all day. No work, no appointments, no obligations. I get the remote, the computer, whatever I want. An occasional day to be selfish is quite refreshing. How do you folks with kids handle it day-in and day-out?

What a loving Mamma kitty. Sure am glad you were able to save them Alison. They are all so sweet.

GS I know what you mean about all the feral cats. It is a helpless feeling not to be able to care for them all. A few years back I had two inside cats (Casper and Gizmo)and three outsiders that I was feeding. All cats around here started disappearing, they either didn't come back or they were maimed in some way. The neighbors had five or six and eventually they disappered. I brought Patches in and now she is an inside cat but before that Bobbie came back blind. He was old so the vet said it would be better to put him down and Socks disappeared. We still do not know what happened to them or what the cause was, but even though we live out in the country my cats are insiders. I feared for Cleo's life if I hadn't brought her in also. We hardly ever see any feral cats.

Sorry to be so long.

Don't worry about long posts. I only hate it when I ramble, I like hearing you guys ramble, hence why we blog....

I don't want to bring up a horrible subject, but I think it needs to be said. I don't think those of you that live in the country have to worry about this, but I sure as hell do here in the city. Basically, I've heard from sources (and also from a person that lives behind one of these places) that... well.... let's just say that the chicken & pork in your chinese food may not be exactly that. Lets not forget that where they come from, this is perfectly natural/acceptable, but they know that us Americans would NOT like it, so they do it sneakily. A friend at work (the one who lives behind one of these chinese restaurants) says that they feed them on purpose, to attract them, but after about a week, they singly dissappear while new ones show up. She says she has never seen anything incriminating, or any malice, but can it be a conincidence that the cats show up, are around for a week and then disappear? It's disturbing and disgusting, and I haven't eaten chinese since, but it doesn't solve the problem. And that's just ONE restaurant. Do you KNOW how many chinese places there are???? I ALWAYS think of that when I see
strays/ferals.... so sad....

I saw it - Tom with the mouse - just hysterical! They've got some really great pictures on that site. I also liked the Ambush Kittens on Kitten Picture Blog. Midnight likes to hide and attack. If I see her, I pretend that I don't, so she can have her fun.

Wow, the story of why the mother was shaved and how she reacted to it was just so stirring! I wish that I had been the one to adopt her. I love her so much. I know that she has a wonderful home and I'm so happy about that. Thanks Alison, your story behind this fantastic kitty family was a real treat.

Hi Guys!

Gheeri's Servant, I want the one in the top pic - with the perfect little M on his/hers forehead...or the black one to her upper left...
I'm serious! I can start researching air shipping - if I had a car, I'd drive down-I have friends in Orlando I can take advantage, eh, visit!
I AM serious, and I agree, Momcats have an nstinct about where to raise het kits safely, and she chose you and Bryan...
see everyone on TDK - isn't it cool, THE GUYS ARE BACK!! We have to give them a hard time for not visiting Pet du Jour and Kat's Cats!

errr, Rose, these kittens are long gone, homes found by Alison. I'm the one with the kittens, but I can't find them. So I don't think I'll be giving any out anytime soon. Sorry for the misunderstanding!
