Maddie

Maddie was a stray who wandered on to our backdeck on *the* 9/11 (Sept 11, 2001). She came back 3 days in a row so we decided she should stay with us forever. She was small and skinny with dull fur. On the weekends, I take each of them in turn for an "out-front-walk" in their harness and leash. They get the most wonderful responses from people.

Sorry I was late, I had a log-in problem. And no-that's not Gheeri, it's her twin, Maddie!

What fun!! Between you and Kat, I'm now spending WAY too much time on the computer. I compared TDK(The Daily Kitten) to Paul's Airplane Builder list-- he was mightily offended!!! He says we're just "chatting" about cats, whereas they are "exchanging technical information" about building their planes...plus, he pays for the service($0.10 per day). I think he's just jealous--'cuz we have way more fun!! Hugs and purrs to all

She's a beauty! Is that a bit of white on the chest, looks like just a few hairs? Looks like she's saying "They'll never find me up here!".

Very cute cat you got there. Why is it that they like heights so so so so much? My cats can be found on top of a cabinet above the fridge.

Donna, are you Kona's Momma too?

I'm sooooooo jealous! Donna, that's a kitty outdoor enclosure, right? I would love to have one, but we don't have a backyard :(

She is! She has another kitty too, who will be on PDJ next week!

What a pretty kitty - and how great that she found you! I have 2 sisters and a brother (all 3 all black) that I found living under some cars when they were 2 months old. I wish my kitties could have such a great play place like yours!

I made it, Rita! I clicked on the archive date and it popped up Maddie.

Maddie looks like she's having fun up there! Where is she Donna?

Hi everyone! I've been at an eye doctor appointment so my dilated eyes now look like a cat's.

Yes, I am Maddie's mom too. Mostly, though, she's really daddy's girl (my husband).

And, yes, she does have a tiny, tiny patch of white fur on her chest and one on her tummy--you can almost count each individual white hair.

The mesh is around a small deck cover to prevent her from going up on the roof. There is also mesh topping the fence around the backyard to keep them in the yard so they can't roam. They get fresh air and sunshine (and rain!) and I don't have to worry [as much] about them.

Maddie, so far, has brought us at least a half-dozen earthworms that she "catches" in the yard. "Maddie, the Might Worm-Hunter".

Thanks so much for putting her on your site.

Maddie and Kona, a match set for the most part. What a neat idea to add the mesh. It's great that they can have their outdoor time and you don't have to worry. The "mighty worm hunter", that's funny. Tells me that if she could, she'd be a mighty BIRD hunter. My Oscar catches birds and moles. He's mostly fat and lazy but get a bird in our yard and he because Mufassa! (SP?)
Maddie is a lovely lady!

OOPS, should say "He BECOMES Mufassa".

Maddie, too, is quite capable of catching birds and mice. I do hope she sticks to worms, though. Not as traumatic and much easier to catch and release ;-) Now, majestic Kona caught one bird and two mice in one evening just a few weeks ago.

The mesh is near the top of the fence and angles in. Cats won't jump up when they see the overhang. Ours is "homemade" but you can Google 'cat fencing' and get an idea.

We have a kitchen nook window from which we removed the screen. When we're home and awake, we open the window a little bit to let them go in and out as they please. You can't be a clean freak, though. We laugh at tracked-in paw prints (from if it's wet outside) but I don't know if non-pet people would find it amusing.

It is funny how those instincts kick in, isn't it, no matter what the kitty is like the rest of the time? (Well, maybe it's not too funny to the birds, mice, and moles. LOL)

It's pawsitivly amazing what the little darlings can catch even if they DON'T go out. We got home last night-dragging our sorry butts behind us- after 4 days of bad behavior and general debauchery in Las Vegas. Sometime during the night, little Miss Meowmepurr herownself caught a Mousie, and stashed it--VERY much alive--in the master bathroom. The 2 of them spent the rest of the night playing some version of silly buggers. Today, she chased Mousie into the sitting room(they were both moving rather slowly by then). I think Mousie is now napping under my reading chair. Meepsie is being Velcro on her Daddy, also sound asleep. However, to add insult to injury, just before she went to sleep she barfed in the bed--MY bed, not HER bed. ::sigh:: Now I'm doing laundry and waiting for the OTHER bedpad to dry, so I can make the bed, so I can get in the bed, so (maybe) I can get a little more sleep!! WELCOME HOME, MUMMA AND DADDY!!!

Maddie looks like a big ball of black fuzz, all cuddle-y like. She looks fuzzier than Kona. Sweet looking cat Donna.

You know, I just realized that people may not know who Mufassa is. If you've ever seen the Lion King, he is the King, Simba's father.

I misunderstood about the mesh at first. So your yard is open in the center but pretty closed off to the kitties in the outer areas. I love the idea about the nook and the kitchen window! I wouldn't care about the paw prints. My husband would have something to say but secretly he would think it's cute too. He's a sucker for the cat.

Meowmepurr, how was Vegas? My husband and I got married there. We stayed at the Rio which is also where we got married. Yes, it was a planned wedding, we just wanted to do our own thing. No, I wasn't pregnant at the time. I always have to clear that up because it's the first question people ask. I hope you had a fun trip. As for your "children", you were being punished! Mine does that too! LOL!

Please just call me Mumma--or Jan. Your wedding thumbnail made me laugh-- we had a similar situation when we got married--almost 36 years ago. Paul was in the Air Force, and I followed him to Wichita Falls, TX. We decided to get married, but wanted it just us and a JP--family celebration to be held later. Except for my mother(I needed my birth certificate), we didn't tell anyone until Thursday, with wedding Saturday morning. Friday night as I was about to go pick Paul up at the Base (around 11pm) I got a call from HIS Dad, saying that HIS mother was arriving on a midnight flight!! Teeth gnashing and bad language...Anyhow, wedding happened, Mom put on 1st flight BACK to Connecticut, and we all survived. Mostly my grandmothers' friends made remarks about the "hole in the corner" wedding, and when was the baby due--old cows!! That baby STILL hasn't arrived--our children have all had four feet and fur. ::GETS DOWN OFF SOAPBOX:END OF RANT::

Las Vegas was WONDERFUL!! We stayed at the new Wynn Las Vegas, built by the same guy who built Mirage, TI, and Bellagio. The hotel is beautiful--our room was larger than our 1st apartment, and the rate(nightly) was about what we paid in rent(monthly) back then.

More tomorrow--I REALLY need to go to bed. Hugs & Purrs--
